Overall, I really enjoyed Broadcast Technology II. I liked how we were able to have total creative control over our projects. In addition, I enjoyed how we were able to choose the topic and what type of video we wanted to produce. The only thing I didn't like about this class was how long the JUULing video took. However, the JUULing project was my favorite project because we went very in depth and it was interesting to investigating something. The only thing I would've liked to do differently would be to divide the work on the JUULing project more so we could have finished faster. I am interested in taking Broadcast Technology II again, and probably will once I take my fine art, P.E., and finance requirements. I had a lot of fun this year with Mr. Goble, Mrs. Davidson, and everyone in the class and will miss this class next year.

My video is centered on Charlie Yeldham, my brother. I decided to focus on him because he was gracious enough to help me with my project. Charlie realizes that prom is in a half hour and he has not started getting ready. However, after changing quickly, he leaves for prom. The video style is a video essay. I filmed this project at my house in one of the bedrooms. I chose this setting because it is logical; people usually get ready for prom at home. For this assignment, we were required to include a mirror or another reflective object. I have a mirror when Charlie is tying his bowtie; there are also mirrors in the background when he is putting on his shoes. In this instance, mirrors serve as a reminder that we can do anything, as Charlie only sees himself in the mirror after he has finished dressing. People should be interested in my video because it is an interesting and slightly humorous approach to self-motivation. The significance of my video is to show that it is never too late to do what you want to do. People often find themselves saying that they cannot do something, but if they put their mind to it and work hard, it can be accomplished.
For my April project, I covered the Day of Dialogue that took place at Ladue on April 20th. I had a lot of fun filming this project. It was a little bit stressful running around the school on the 20th filming different events. Unfortunately, there was an error with the iris that I was unable to fix while filming so some of my shots came out over exposed. Other shots were not in focus. I will have to remember to always check my shots before filming in the future. However, I did the best with the B Roll I had. I'm lucky that my interviews were really good; the two students I interviewed really helped tell the story. I ran into another problem when going to record a voiceover. The microphone was picking up interference so I decided to just use my iPad to record the voiceover instead of spending a lot of time checking out another microphone because I still needed to add some final touches to the video. Although it does not sound the best, I think it still sounds okay. This video was a good learning experience about how to cover news stories live and work for a deadline.
On my last blog post, I talked about how I was starting a JUULing project with Erin and Andrew. Fast forward a month, and currently we have almost all of our footage and are in the editing stage. Last week, we put out a trailer for our project, which I have put down below. It has received close to 200 views, which is pretty amazing. I’m excited to finish this project and share it with the world. Editing has been taking some time, but I’m fine with that because I truly want to make this project the best it can be. The finished video should be coming out sometime in April.
For my second project, I am working on a JUULing project with Erin and Andrew. To begin, we conducted research about JUULing, and watched news packages on the topic for inspiration. In addition, we made a schedule to keep track of our work. After collecting information, we began writing questions for our interviews. For this project, we wanted to interview a student who JUULs, a JUUL dealer, a principal, and a health official. Our first interview was with the student who JUULs. The student was very cooperative and the interview went well. The next interview we wanted to do was with our health professional. Luckily for us, LHWHS had a guest speaker come to talk to the freshman on February 22nd about JUULing. The guest speaker was Mrs. Seymour, who is a heart nurse. We recorded segments of her presentation to use in our video. The next day, we interviewed her as well and she allowed us to get BRoll of some of her Juul products. Our third interview was with the freshman principal, Mr. Tarpey, whose interview also went well. What we still have to do is interview a JUUL dealer, get more BRoll, and edit all of our clips. Our project has gone very well so far and I am looking forward to keep working on it.
Hello! Welcome to my blog. This is my first blogpost. I am just wrapping up my first couple of weeks as a Broadcast Tech II student. I have spent the past few weeks learning how to operate the cameras and learning how to use Final Cut Pro X. The cameras we are using have many new features that I had to learn, such as focus, color balance, and zoom. I shot some practice footage and added the footage to Final Cut Pro to edit it. Final Cut Pro X is a software made by Apple for video editing. I learned how to use features such as transitions, text, and audio balancing. It was very interesting and I look forward to doing more work with the cameras and Final Cut Pro.
